Warning: Huge Spoilers Ahead.
After an explosive Premiere and an excellent second episode, Supernatural is back in playing to its strengths which is killing off the characters. Not one, Not two, but three characters had bid their farewell to the series in a single episode.
After waking up in the hospital, Ketch is engaged by a demon who is looking for Belphagor. The demon is certain that Ketch knows Belphagor’s whereabouts and is denying to talk as he was protecting his friends. The former Men of Letters agent announces that he won’t give up his pals “not at any price,” to which the demon rips out his heart as a response.
The second death of the episode is an expected one but not this early, Belphagor. This sassy demon who is occupying Jack's body turns out a wannabe Lilith/Crowley. He manipulates the team free will by explaining about Lilith's horn which helps them to suck back all the souls to hell. Since Chuck just stomped and cracked a hole in the hell all they need is to close it from outside. And his revealed deception is the only reason Castiel needs to smite him.
The third and most painful death in "The Rupture" is Rowena Macleod. This witch foe turned ally, who helped the Winchesters in the last episode, once again proved that her vast knowledge and command of witchcraft provided a great effort to magically trap all of Hell's escaped spirits. But she fails in the first attempt, as Belphagor's suggestion about blowing the horn, Rowena removes her final resurrection stone to release a spell that yanks the hellish souls from Belphegor into her own body before convincing Sam to kill her (who agrees tearfully).
Her last words "Good Bye Boys" bring a painful throwback to her son Crowley's final words.
Liked:
1. The whole Sam and Rowena's sequence,
2. Castiel Smiting Belphagor,
3. Ketch's final heroic moment,
4. Writing.
Disliked :
Nothing.
There is a shocker at the end too, as Castiel leaves the team (for now, I hope it's not forever), as Dean accuses him of all the mess that had happened. I can say I am literally shocked as this happened all of the sudden. The whole Cas and Dean confrontation sequence is really painful as he mentions that Dean is still angry about Mary's death. His exact words before leaving the team were "I don't think there's anything left for me to say. Jack's dead; Chuck's gone; you and Sam have each other. I think it's time for me to move on."
After Crowley and Mary's Death, The Rupture is one of the most painful and depressing episodes in the whole series for me. This episode really demonstrates that end is real this time and I am nervously waiting what's gonna happen in the forthcoming episodes.
My Rating: ****
